Solidarity forever! The IGWC-UE stands united with workers across the state. Together, we fight for an Indiana in which workers are treated equitably and have a fair say in our working conditions.
We are proud to have the support of a wide range of Indiana labor unions. If you’re involved in organized labor in Indiana, please sign our Labor Supporter Petition (text below). Your voice calls on the IU Board of Trustees to recognize our union, and lets them know that Indiana workers are watching.
To the Indiana University Board of Trustees:
The Graduate Workers at Indiana University in Bloomington have exercised one of the most basic democratic rights of all workers in our country - to freely and collectively organize for safe and fair working conditions.
Last December, the Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition - United Electrical Workers (IGWC-UE) presented the Board of Trustees with union cards signed by a supermajority of graduate employees, indicating the graduate workers’ democratic will to be represented and bargain collectively.
We are deeply concerned to learn that the Board of Trustees and IU Administration not only failed to schedule a timely union election, but have since engaged in tactics intended to threaten and intimidate graduate employees from organizing.
We, the undersigned, stand firmly in support of the graduate employees at Indiana University in Bloomington. We call on the Board of Trustees to drop its opposition to the graduate workers’ union, to formally recognize the union, and to bargain fairly with them.
We stand ready to act in solidarity with the Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition - United Electrical Workers.
An injury to one is an injury to all.
In Solidarity,
